Mini Country Charm Stocking Ornament – Free Pattern
Skill Level:
Easy
Gauge:
No swatching required for this project.
Finished Measurements:
2¾″ wide × 6½″ long
Materials:
- 25 g worsted weight yarn for solid colour (Lion Brand Pound of Love shown: Olive, Winter Green, Cherry, Sugar Cookie, Antique White, and Claret)
- 12 g white for toe, heel, and band
- 4.5 mm crochet hook
- Yarn needle
- Scissors
Notes
- This mini stocking ornament is worked from the toe up.
- Change colours on the final slip stitch of the round unless otherwise noted.
- Colour changes are done every round or as noted for different designs.
- Stitch counts are included at the end of each round in ( ).
- Written in US crochet terms.
- Turning chain does not count as a stitch.
- This crochet Mini Stocking Ornament can have many different looks just by adjusting colour changes.
To adjust for multiple colours:
Take the total amount listed for the solid colour option and divide it by the number of colours you plan to use. This will give you the approximate amount of yarn needed for each colour.
Example: If the solid colour option uses 25 g less 12 g for the toe, heel and cuff divide 14 (rounding up) the difference by the number of colours you want to use.
Using Colours in Your Christmas Mini Stocking Ornament
Follow the crochet Mini Stocking Ornament round instructions as written, and simply switch yarns according to the colour guide below. Each round is worked completely in a single colour. At the end of the listed rounds, change colours as instructed.
How to Make Colour Changes
Steps
- Work the round as written in the current colour.
- When you get to the very last slip stitch (sl st) of the round, stop before completing it.
- Drop the old colour and place the new colour on your hook.
- Pull the new colour through to finish the slip stitch – this completes the join for that round.
- Chain 1 and turn (as pattern instructs), now working the next round in the new colour.
- No need to weave in. Simply tie a knot and tuck them to the inside of the Mini Ornament.
Note: Make sure all yarn tails from your colour changes are pulled to the same side of the Mini Ornament.
Round 1 is the outside of the stocking, so pull all tails to the inside. If you forget, no worries – just use your crochet hook to grab them through and pull them to the inside later.

Special Stitches
Long Double Crochet (ldc): Work double crochet around and in front of the previous Rnd and into the stitch indicated one Rnd below.
Cluster: In the space between groups of 3 dc, work (dc, ldc in middle st of cluster below, dc). When working ldc be sure to bring the height of the stitch up to match the height of the dc previously made in the space between the clusters.
Toe
Worked in continuous rounds, do not join.
Ch 2
Rnd 1: Work 6 sc into 2nd ch from hook. (6)
Rnd 2: 2 sc in 1st and each st around. (12)
Rnd 3: Sc in 1st, 2 sc in next. *Sc in next st, 2 sc in next*. Rpt from * to * till you reach the end of the rnd. (18)
Rnd 4: Sc in 1st and each st around. (18). Join to 1st sc with sl st. Ch 1, turn.
This completes the toe section; from here the foot is worked in joined rounds.
If using multiple colours change colours now.
Foot
Rnd 5: 3 dc in 1st sc, sk next 2 sts, *3 dc in next st, sk next 2 sts* repeat * to * around. Skip last 2 sts. Join with sl st, ch 1, turn. (18 sts)
Rnd 6: In space before 1st cluster: (dc, ldc in sc below, dc). *Sk next cluster, in space before next cluster (dc, ldc in sc below, dc).* Repeat from * to * around, end just before last cluster. Skip the last cluster. Join with sl st, ch 1, turn. (18 sts)

Rnds 7 – 9: Working in space before 1st cluster, (dc, ldc in middle st of cluster below, dc). *Sk next cluster, in space before next cluster (dc, ldc in middle st of cluster below, dc).* Repeat from * to *around, end just before last cluster. Skip the last cluster. Join with sl st, ch 1, turn. (18 sts)
After round 9 join with a sl st and fasten off.
Heel
(Worked in rows)
Change to heel colour now.
With right side of stocking facing you. Join yarn with slip stitch to 4th st to the right of fasten off point. Ch 1 does not count as stitch.
Row 1: Sc in same st as join, dc in middle st of cluster below, sk next st, sc in next 2 sts, dc in middle st of cluster below (fasten-off point), sk next st, sc in next 2 sts, dc in middle st of cluster below, sk next st, sc in next st. (9 sts). Ch 1, turn.
Rows 2 – 4: Sc 1st and each st across. Ch 1, turn. (9) Turn. After row 4, fasten off and leave long tail for sewing back seam of heel together.

Creating the heel
After Row 4, fold the long edge of the heel with the right sides facing each other. Instead of using a slip stitch join (I found it a bit too bulky here), sew the back of the heel closed with a yarn needle, working through both layers. This gives you a neater, slimmer heel seam.
Fasten off and weave in ends and turn seam to inside of stocking.

Leg
If using multiple colours change colours now.
You’ll be working into the ends of the heel rows (these will be the “sts” mentioned in the next step) as well as the unworked stitches along the top of the foot.
Because the leg is worked into both the row ends of the heel and the open spaces of the foot, I’ve broken the first two rounds down separately to make it easier to follow.
Rnd 1:
Working into the heel:
Join yarn with slip stitch to centre back seam of heel.
- 3 dc in same where joined.
- Skip 2 sts.
- 3 dc where heel meets foot.
Working into spaces of foot:
- Dc, ldc in middle st of cluster below, dc. *Sk next cluster, in space before next cluster (dc, ldc in 2nd st of cluster below, dc).* Repeat from * to *around until you reach the heel.
Working into the heel:
- 3 dc where heel meets foot.
- Skip 2 sts.
- Join with sl st, to 1st dc made. Ch 1, turn. (18 sts)
Rnd 2:
Working into the heel:
- In space before 1st cluster: (dc, ldc in heel, dc).
Working into spaces of foot:
- Dc, ldc in middle st of cluster below, dc. *Sk next cluster, in space before next cluster (dc, ldc in 2nd st of cluster below, dc).* Repeat from * to *around until you reach the heel.
Working into the heel:
- In space before 1st cluster: (dc, ldc in heel, dc).
- Skip cluster.
- Join with sl st, to 1st dc made. Ch 1, turn. (18 sts)
Rnds 3 – 6: Working in space before 1st cluster, (dc, ldc in middle st of cluster below, dc). *Sk next cluster, in space before next cluster (dc, ldc in middle st of cluster below, dc).* Repeat from * to *around. Skip last 2 sts. Join with sl st, ch 1, turn. (18 sts)
Note for finishing round: You will no longer be working into the spaces. Work directly
into stitches as instructed below.
Rnd 7: Dc in middle st of cluster below, sk next st, sc in next 2 sts. *dc in middlest of cluster below, sk next, sc in next 2 sts.* Repeat from *to* to last 3 sts. Skip next st,sc in the last 2 sts. (18 sts). Join with sl st. Ch 1 turn.

Cuff
- You’ll now work continuously without turning. Use a stitch marker to keep track of rounds.
- You’ll be crocheting around the inside edge of the tube so that when the cuff folds down, the right side shows..
- Fasten off and weave in remaining ends. Fold cuff down over the top edge.
Rnds 1 – 9: Sc in 1st and each st around. (18) Fasten off and weave in ends.

Add a little loop of twine, yarn, or ribbon to the top corner so it’s ready to hang.
Add optional embellishment ideas: Attach small pompoms, buttons, or bells for extra charm.
If giving as a gift tag or ornament: You can slip in a small candy cane or tag for decoration.
If you’re looking for a project that’s equal parts festive and relaxing, this Mini Country Charm Crochet Stocking Ornament is it. It’s simple, quick, and full of cozy farmhouse vibes just like its matching hat.
These make great last-minute gifts or gift card holders, and they’re the kind of pattern you’ll come back to year after year. Once you make one, don’t be surprised if you end up crocheting a whole bunch of them in every colour you have on hand.
