Make a super quick, easy and fun looking Crochet Christmas stocking for your home or loved ones this year! The crochet Rainer Stocking is a great size, 18″ x 8″.
Big enough to fit lots of treats and goodies and even has some stretch for those slightly quirky hard to fit presents. Who wouldn’t have a huge smile digging into one of these Christmas morning?
The ripple texture of this stocking is easily achieved by working a simple combination of single crochet and double crochet. It is perfect for beginners and also includes instructional photos.

POM POMS (Make 2)
Ch 80 Leave tail at least 12” long at the beginning and end for attaching pompoms.
This doesn’t have to be exact, if you don’t have a pompom maker you can use a 3” X 3” piece of cardboard
Wind yarn around cardboard approx 150 times. Slide off cardboard and tie yarn around middle as tight as possible. Leave ends long for attaching to hat. Cut all loops and trim pom pom to size and shape desired.
To attach the pompom use needle and long tail from tie work back and forth through pompom to secure.

Fasten off and weave in ends. Turn right side out.

With right side of heel facing, count 6 sts from right to left side of heel and join yarn with slst. Ch 1.
LEG – See striping instructions above

Work in continuous rounds – do not join or turn.
Rnds 1-18: (Sc, dc) in same st as ch 1 *sk next sc (sc, dc) in next sc* rpt from *to* end of rnd. (36) See Note Below
Note: After ROUND 1 you should have 36 stitches around entire stocking. Be sure you have not added any extra stitches here. Sometimes there will be a small gap where the heel meets the rest of the stocking. This is because we are working in every other stitch. This can easily be fixed by using a darning needle and making a tiny stitch to fix the gap.
TOP BAND – Change to contrast colour.
Rnds 19-22: Sc in 1st and each st around. After round 22 join with slst, fasten off and weave in ends.

HANGER (Optional)
Note! Because the stitches shift as you are adding rounds to the band the centre back of stocking is NOT the same as the fasten off point – see reference photo below.

Join with slst at centre back, chain 10, join in same space. Fasten off and weave in ends.
