Construction of the Brighton Christmas Mini Stocking Ornament
This Mini Christmas Stocking is super easy to make. Starting at the bottom of the toe and working in continuous rounds all the way to the heel portion. Then we will work in rows back and forth and sew the back of the heel together creating the side of the heel which the following rounds will be worked into.
As we continue to the leg portion you will also work in rounds, crocheting into the ends of the rows of the heel and the unworked stitches of the foot.
Then lastly we will finish off the top of the stocking and ad a hanging chain to complete the stocking.
Best Yarn for This Mini Stocking Pattern
The nice thing about Christmas Ornaments is that you don’t necessarily need to use the most popular yarn. This crochet stocking pattern works up great in all yarns and will create a well-loved crochet stocking for years to come.
If you are making a multi-coloured stocking you will want to make sure that you use the same weight yarn for the top of the stocking, the toe and heel section. And, if you are changing the size of the yarn perhaps you will choose a chunky yarn make sure to change the hook size as well and use the size recommended on the label of the yarn.

Single Colour or Two Colour Solid Stocking
If working the foot and leg in one colour you can work in continuous rounds without joining.
Striped or Tri-Colour Stocking
For Striped stocking work each colour for two rounds and join to the top of first dc with a slst. Slst is not included in stitch count.
For Tri-Colour Stocking make colour changes at each round and join to the top of first dc with a slst. Slst is not included in stitch count.
How to Make Colour Changes
Make colour changes by completing the last stitch with new colour and dropping the colour just used.
Stocking Toe
Worked in continuous rounds, do not join.
Ch 2
Rnd 1: Work 6 sc in to 2nd ch from hook. (6)
Rnd 2: 2 sc in 1st and each st around. (12)
Rnd 3: Sc in 1st, 2 sc in next. *Sc in 1st, 2 sc in next*. Rpt from * to * till you reach the end of the rnd. (18)
Rnd 4: Sc in 1st and each st around. (18)
Stocking Foot
Refer to notes above about joins.
If using multiple colours change colours now.
Place a stitch marker in the 1st dc of each round.
Rnd 1: Dc in 1st st, ch 1, sk next st. *Dc in next st, ch 1, sk next st.* Rpt from * to * till end of round. Join to 1st dc with slst. (18)
For the following rounds make sure that the dc is worked over the chain stitch and in the skip double crochet in the round below DO NOT work into the space itself.
Rnds 2 – 6: Dc in 1st skipped dc below ch space, ch 1, skip next st, *Dc in skipped dc below ch space, ch 1 skip next st.* Rpt from *to* till end of rnd. Join to 1st dc with slst. (18)
Fasten off and weave in ends.
Stocking Heel
(Worked in rows)
Change to heel colour now.
With right side of stocking facing you count 4 sts to the right of fasten of point. Join yarn with slip stitch to the top of the double crochet.
Row 1: *Dc in st below ch sp, sc in next dc.* Rpt from * to * 3 more times. (8) Turn.
Rows 2 – 4: Sc 1st and each st across. (8) Turn.
Creating the heel
Fasten off and leave long tail for sewing back seam of heel together.
After row 4, fold the long edge of the heel right sides (outside) together and sew back of heel seam together either by using a tapestry needle and yarn or by working a slip stitch through both layers.
This creates the back of the heel.
Fasten off and weave in ends and turn seam to inside of stocking.
Stocking Leg
If using multiple colours change colours now.
Join yarn with slip stitch to centre back seam of heel.
Working in the ends of rows (referred to as sts in next step) of the heel and unworked stitches of the foot.
Rnd 1: Dc in same st as slst just made, ch 1, skip next st. *Dc in next st, ch 1, skip next st.* Rpt from * to * till end of rnd. Join with slst to 1st dc. (18)
Rnds 2 – 8: Dc in 1st skipped dc below ch space, ch 1, skip next st, *Dc in skipped dc below ch space, ch 1 skip next st.* Rpt from *to* till end of rnd. Join with slst to 1st dc. (18)
Rnd 9: *Dc in skipped dc below ch space, sc in next dc.* Rpt from * to * till end of rnd. Join with slst to 1st dc. (18)
Change to contrast colour here
Rnds 10 – 11: Sc in 1st and each st around. (18) Fasten off and weave in ends.
Stocking Hanger
Join with slst to at centre back stitch of stocking.
Create a chain with 8 stitches. Attach this chain to the stocking by using a slip stitch in the same stitch as the beginning of the chain.
Finish off and neatly weave in any loose ends.
