If you’re looking for a super easy free crochet throw pattern that has a cozy cottage vibe, you’re in for a treat today. I made the Cedar Ridge Crochet Throw a while back, inspired by the Cedar Ridge Dishcloth pattern that I had released at that time. They both use the same stitch!
This crochet blanket texture is all about simplicity and rustic charm. It’s perfect for beginners and still lots of fun for expert crocheters, too.
Imagine a chilly evening with a warm cup of tea and your favourite TV show on. What could make it even cozier? Wrapping yourself in a handmade masterpiece, of course!
This chunky blanket adds extra comfort and style to your space, making it feel like home instantly.

My son loved this blanket when he saw it on my bed. He even asked if it had been in our family’s cottage for years because it looks so rustic.
He even gave it a little sniff, thinking it had that nostalgic cottage scent. That’s when I knew my idea for this cozy throw had truly come to life.
This throw is made with chunky weight yarn, so it’s warm and has a luxurious texture. The lovely lacy design adds a touch of elegance, and the contrasting trim makes it really stand out.
But wait, there’s more! I know that beginners and visual learners might appreciate some extra help. That’s why I’ve created a video tutorial that guides you through every step of the process.
Whether you’re new to crochet or a pro, this video will be your trusted companion, making sure you create your Cozy Cedar Ridge Crochet Throw with confidence. Enjoy your cozy crocheting! π

Substituting yarn
Gauge refers to the number of stitches and rows that you achieve in a specified measurement, typically a 4-inch by 4-inch (10 cm by 10 cm) square.
While it’s true that this pattern is quite forgiving when it comes to gauge, as it’s not crucial for fit like in garments, some crocheters might still want to check their gauge. Here’s why:
Matching Size: Even though exact gauge isn’t essential for this throw, crocheters who want their final project to be a specific size might want to check their gauge to ensure that it will be close to their desired dimensions.
Yarn Substitution: If you’re using a different yarn than the one specified in the pattern, checking your gauge can help ensure that your substitution will still result in a throw of the intended size.
Different yarns can have variations in thickness, so checking gauge is a way to adjust for these differences.
If the gauge of the substitute yarn is significantly different from the original yarn, the project’s feel and look may be affected.
To ensure that the finished project looks and feels as close to the original design as possible, make a swatch with the substitute yarn and compare it to the original yarn swatch to match the gauge.

Row 1: Sc in 2nd ch from hook and each ch across. (75) Ch 1, turn.
Row 2: (Sc, ch 2, sc) in 1st st, skip next st. *(sc, ch 2, sc) in next, skip next st*. Repeat from * to * until end of row. (38 ch 2 spaces) Ch 1, turn.
Row 3: (Sc, ch 2, sc) in 1st ch 2 space. *(sc, ch 2, sc) in next ch 2 space.* Repeat from * to * until end of row. (38 ch 2 spaces) Ch 1, turn.

To make a longer throw continue to add rows until you reach the desired length.
Last row: Work 2 single crochets into each chain two space. Place 6 sc in last st.
Be careful not to make these stitches too tight or the end of your throw may pucker.

Do not change colour yet. You will now be working around the entire throw with the same colour as the main part of the throw.
Turn your work so that are working down the side of the throw.
Work 1 sc into the end of each row to 2nd last stitch. Work 6 sc in the last stitch of the row.
Turn your work to work across the bottom (very first row you made) of the throw.

Turn your work so that are working down the side of the throw.
Work 1 sc into the end of each row. Work 6 sc into the same stitch as the slst.
Turn your work so that are working along the top row of the throw.
Work 1 sc into the end of each row. Work 6 sc into the same stitch as the slst.
Now you will change to contrast colour for trim.
TRIM INSTRUCTIONS
Cream Trim
Change to contrast yarn.
NOTE
If using the London Fog yarn as I did you will need to hold two strands of it together. I find that this yarn is much thinner than other chunky yarns.
If you are using the same yarn that you used for your blanket in a contrasting colour, there will be no need to hold the strands together because the gauge will be consistent between the two yarns being used for the crochet, throw.
Before starting the trim with the contrast yarn, it’s important to create a small swatch using the contrast yarn alone and adjust your hook size if necessary to match gauge of the main part of the throw.
This ensures that your trim will be consistent in thickness and appearance with the main body of the throw, resulting in a polished and cohesive finished project.

Round 1: (Sc, ch 2, sc) in 1st st, skip next st. *(sc, ch 2, sc) in next, skip next st.* Repeat from * to * around the entire throw. Join with slst to 1st sc, ch 1, turn.
Round 2: (Sc, ch 2, sc) in 1st ch 2 space. *(sc, ch 2, sc) in next ch 2 space.* Repeat from * to * around the entire throw. Join with slst to 1st sc, ch 1, turn.
Repeat Round 2, 1 – 2 more times or until trim is desired thickness.
