To make your lapghan wider or narrower, adjust your starting chain by adding or removing chains in multiples of 2. Keep in mind that changing the number of starting chains will also affect the amount of yarn needed.

Special Notes
- Colour Changing: When changing colours at the end of a row, begin the final half double crochet (hdc) of the row as normal. Work the stitch until you have 3 loops on your hook, then yarn over with the new colour and pull through all 3 loops to complete the stitch.
- Long Double Crochet (ldc) Height: When making the long double crochet into the row below, pull your loop up to match the full height of the adjacent double crochet stitches. This keeps your row edges straight and prevents the fabric from puckering or shrinking in height.
- Starting Chain Multiples: To adjust the width or length of your blanket, simply add or subtract number of rows and or starting chains using any multiple of 2 for the starting chain.
- Weaving in Ends: Because of the frequent colour changes, I recommend weaving in your ends as you go.

Special Stitches:
Long Double Crochet (ldc): Work a double crochet around and in front of the previous row, inserting the hook into the stitch one row below.
When working ldc be sure to bring the height of the stitch up to match the height of the dc previously made in the space between the clusters.
Cluster: In the spaces between groups of 3dc, work (dc, ldc in middle st of cluster below, dc) into each space.
Striping
Striping is achieved by working a new colour at each row.
How to make colour changes
- Work across the row with the main colour until you reach the last hdc.
- Begin the final hdc as usual: yarn over, insert your hook into the last stitch, yarn over and pull up a loop. You will now have 3 loops on your hook.
- Drop the main colour and pick up the new colour.
- Yarn over with the new colour and pull through all 3 loops on your hook to complete the hdc.
- Chain 1 with the new colour and turn your work.
- Continue working the next row with the new colour.
- Repeat these steps each time you change colours.
- Tip: Changing colours while completing the final hdc creates a clean colour change at the edge of your blanket.
Lapghan Instructions
- When working ldc be sure to bring the height of the stitch up to match the height of the dc previously made in the space between the clusters.
- Colour changes are done at each row.
- Turning chain does not count as stitch.

Cream Border
Change to contrast yarn here.
The 6 sc worked into each corner stitch create the turning space needed to work the border smoothly around the blanket.
At this point, we are creating a single crochet border all the way around the lapghan.
- Turn your work so that you are working down the side of the lapghan.
- Work 1 sc into the end of each row to the 2nd-last stitch. Work 6 sc in the last stitch of the row.
- Turn your work to work across the bottom of the lapghan, working into the very first row you made.
- Work 1 sc into each stitch to the 2nd-last stitch. Work 6 sc in the last stitch.
- Turn your work so that you are working up the other side of the lapghan.
- Work 1 sc into the end of each row. Work 6 sc in the last stitch.
- Turn your work so that you are working across the top of the lapghan.
- Work 1 sc into each stitch. Work 6 sc into last stitch. Join with slst, ch 1 and turn.
This is the start of the scalloped edging.
Round 1: (Sc, ch 2, sc) in 1st st, skip next st. *(sc, ch 2, sc) in next, skip next st.* Repeat from * to * around the entire lapghan. Join with slst to 1st sc, ch 1, turn.
