Best yarn for this pattern
LIONS BRAND WOOL EASE THICK N QUICK is a perfect choice for the crochet Apline Ski Hat. It is really beautiful yarn as well and I was really happy with the result when I used it.
If you’re making this hat for a baby I really recommend choosing something soft from a baby line or two strands of worsted weight together. The hat is pretty stiff when made out of Wool Ease in the smaller size. So try to find some thing that’s soft and pliable or another recommendation would be to use a chunky yarn but go up a size
Substituting yarn
If you are looking for a yarn that isn’t quite this warm there are many others that will work great. BERNAT SOFTEE CHUNKY for more substitute yarns check out www.yarnsub.com this website is fantastic for finding yarns to use in your projects.
In a pinch two strands of worsted weight yarn held together will also work great.

Construction of the Hat
The first part of making this hat is creating a tube. Once you have reached the height you need you will see that there are still open spaces from the ch1 stitch. Before you go ahead and cinch the top closed be sure to complete the last round of the hat where we close them.
Use a needle and yarn to close the top of the hat weaving in and out between stitches.
Because this weave is super dense you may find that you still have a hole at the top. If you do – keep working with the needle and yarn and work some stitches back and forth to sew it closed.

Construction of the Crochet Ribbed Brim
The ribbed band of this hat is attached as you go. You start by making a chain which will be the height of the band then you will be working rows of half double crochet in the back loop attaching to the hat as you go.
