Beautifully Textured Free Dino Crochet Hooded Cowl Pattern.
A few weeks ago I posted my Crochet Hooded Bear Cowl for free on my blog and people went crazy for it! I was so happy to see this and decided it would be a great time to add more of the crochet hooded cowls to my blog in time for Halloween!
This reminds me – be sure to check out my free downloadable Halloween Gift Tags.
Can’t decide on a costume for Halloween? Pull out your extra bulky yarn and get ready to hook up this beautifully textured crochet dino hood and have matching costumes.
This crochet dino hood features a beautiful texture that runs all over the entire hood, along with a cozy cowl that will keep the cold winds from going down your back. The hood has lots of wiggle room so it is perfect for layering (or not) depending how cold it is.

How to Crochet a Hooded Cowl
A crochet hooded cowl may look a little confusing to make but it is far easier than it looks.
Let’s break it down…
To start, this hooded cowl you are going to start just like you are crocheting hat. The hood starts with normal increase rounds which create the part that will cover the back of your head.
Once those rounds are finished you are going to start working in rows. These rows will not be joined. This is creating the part that will sit on top of your head and at the base of your neck.
When all these rows are finished the cowl is made by working the first row while attaching to the base of the hood. Each round or row made adds to the height of the cowl.
Last are the finishing touches and you are done!

THE YARN
LIONS BRAND WOOL EASE THICK N QUICK is a perfect choice for the hooded cowl. Unfortunately though I couldn’t find the exact colours I was hoping to use so used Loops and Threads Cozy Wool instead. It is really beautiful yarn as well and I was really happy with the result when I used it.
If you are looking for a yarn that isn’t quite this warm there are many others that will work great. BERNAT SOFTEE CHUNKY for more substitute yarns check out www.yarnsub.com this website is fantastic for finding yarns to use in your projects.
In a pinch two strands of worsted weight yarn held together will also work great. Keep in mind you hood may come out a bit larger so you may want to make a size smaller.
