Why Use Worsted Weight Cotton Yarn for Dish Towels & Dishcloths?
When it comes to crocheting crochet hand towel and crochet dish cloths, cotton is the best choice! Unlike acrylic or other synthetic fibers, cotton is:
- Absorbent – It soaks up water efficiently, making it ideal for drying hands, dishes, and countertops.
- Durable – Cotton holds up well to frequent use and washing, ensuring your own crochet kitchen towel lasts a long time.
- Heat-Resistant – Perfect for handling warm dishes or using as a trivet in a pinch.
- Easy to Clean – Toss your crochet dish towel or dishcloths in the wash for a fresh start every time.
The Crochet Crunch Stitch
This pattern features the crochet crunch stitch, which is a simple but stunning textured stitch pattern made with half double crochets, and sl st. Holding two strands of yarn together creates a thick and squishy fabric for the dishcloth and the texture is ideal for hanging towel designs and dishcloths that need extra durability.

Crochet Dish Towel Pattern
The easy crochet kitchen towel in this pattern is designed with different colors, changing every row to create a fun striped pattern. Think pink lemonade and orange juice—bright, cheerful, and perfect for spring and summer! Whether you go for bold stripes or solid colors, this towel will add a pop of charm to your kitchen decor.

Super Chunky Soft Dishcloth
For the matching dishcloth, you’ll be holding two strands of worsted weight cotton yarn together, making it extra thick and absorbent. Not only does this increase durability, but it also allows for fun different colors combinations, making it easy to customize for different holidays or home themes. This might just become your favorite dishcloth pattern!

A Great Gift Idea!
Handmade kitchen items like these make thoughtful and practical gifts. A set of crochet kitchen towels and crochet dishcloths wrapped with a pretty ribbon is a perfect housewarming, hostess, or holiday present. Consider using color A and color B to match seasonal décor or themes like gingerbread man kitchen towel for Christmas or buffalo plaid kitchen towel for a farmhouse look.

Recommended Cotton Yarns
If you’re making this project and wondering what yarn to use, I’ve got you covered! I almost always reach for worsted weight 100% cotton yarns—they’re durable, absorbent, and hold up beautifully over time. Whether you’re making home decor, accessories, or baby items, these cottons are a great choice.
Bernat Handicrafter Cotton
The Bernat Handicrafter Cotton—thick, sturdy, and great for washcloths, coasters, and more. It has a matte texture and a dense feel, which gives your stitches really nice definition. If you’ve used it before, you know it’s a solid workhorse yarn.
Knit Picks Dishie
Dishie is probably the closest match to Handicrafter in terms of texture and weight. It’s a worsted weight 100% cotton that’s slightly smoother than Handicrafter, but still super durable. It also comes in a huge range of colours.
Lily Sugar’n Cream
Another long-time favourite, is Lily Sugar’n Cream in both weight and texture. It’s also 100% cotton and super sturdy, with a slightly more rustic feel. It works up nicely for everything from dishcloths to baskets and is widely available in stores.
You can’t go wrong with any of these! If you’re not sure what to choose, Knit Picks Dishie is a top pick when people want something super close to Bernat Handicrafter, especially for beginner-friendly projects.
