‘Tis the season for festive crafting, and I have been in full swing this year with lots of free crochet ornament patterns. Today’s blog post I am adding this sweet little free crochet pattern for an Easy Crochet Christmas Wreath Ornament!
This little crochet wreath is so much fun to make I’m sure you will be making these crochet decorations like crazy before the holidays.
Using single crochet and chain stitches this pattern is perfect for beginners who want to make a quick Christmas wreath for the holidays.
These Christmas Tree Ornaments can be personalized by adding different coloured wooden beads or buttons, a twine bow or make a red chain from yarn and tie a bow with that.

Finished Measurements
Size will depend on the item that is used for the base of the wreath.
If you are using the same size ring and yarn as me – your finished wreath will measure approximately 3 1/2″ across.

Materials
- A small metal (I used a 38mm) or wooden ring (available at most craft stores) If you can’t find either you can even try a pony tail holder. Twine or ribbon will work as well! These will be used and referred to as the base of the wreath.
- Choose a yarn between DK, Worsted weight and chunky these weights work best – I used both Lion Brand Heartland and Loops and Threads Heathered Tweed
- Crochet Hook 6.50 mm
- Scissors
- Yarn needle for weaving in ends
Optional Materials
Just yesterday I went to the Dollar Tree one town over – totally worth the drive! I found all these fun little treats there for decorating these wreathes.
I love the silver cold and bronze coloured berries and think they would looks stunning on white or cream wreathes – I would choose a yarn like Heartland or another yarn with a bit of a sheen.
I also found these on Amazon – OMG these are just the cutest and amazing if you are gifting or selling these little wreaths – a real time saver!
Free Crochet Pattern for Mini Crochet Wreath Ornament
There are no hard and fast rules for joining for this pattern you can join and turn or work continuously. Choose which ever method is easiest for you 🙂
Start by attaching the yarn to the ring or whatever you are using as the base of the wreath.
Start with a Slip Knot
Begin by creating a slip knot with your chosen yarn. Slide it onto your crochet hook.
Attach Yarn to the Ring
Insert your crochet hook through the metal ring, yarn over, and pull up a loop. This forms a slip stitch to secure the yarn to the ring.
Rnd 1: Work single crochet stitches around the metal ring, work as many as it takes to fill the ring with no spaces between the stitches. Continue until you’ve completed one full round.
Rnd 2: (Sc, ch 2, sc) Into every sc around.
Rnd 3: (Sc, ch 2, sc) twice Into every ch 2 space around.
To increase the size of your mini wreath, repeat round 3 for as many rounds as desired.
Once you have done this you can add a hanger of your choice. I like leaving the hanger off which leaves options open for the uses mentioned above. I feel that the hanger if added can limit the uses a bit.

Mini Wreath Hanger
Join to 1st stitch of previous round with a slip stitch. Create a chain with 8 stitches. Attach this chain to the wreath and form a loop by using a slip stitch in the same stitch as the beginning of the chain.
Leave a long tail for the final steps.
Shaping Your Wreath
In this step you are going to be shaping the wreath so that it has those beautiful ripples. You may be tempted at this point to simply twist the yarn around the ring – STOP! This one is different.
What you want to do is create a ripple by folding the edges like an accordion and sewing the yarn through the ripples as you go.

Now it is time to personalize add buttons, bows, beads whatever you want to truly make it customized exactly the way you want it.
