Who can make this crochet pumpkin?
This crochet pumpkin pattern is absolutely perfect for a new crocheter. With the beginner in mind, I created a YouTube video that will walk you stitch by stitch on how to make these pumpkins. They are made using only a single crochet. Stuffing them and shaping them is so much easier than it looks – just watch!

Ideas for using these pumpkins
Oh so many ideas for using these pumpkins. So many in fact, that I couldn’t possibly get them all done before Christmas.
So I did a few which I will share with you here, so that you can get some ideas. Some of the ideas that I didn’t get to: a door hanger, napkin ring, flower basket well I guess actually a pumpkin basket so basically a basket with flowers with pumpkins in it.
A centrepiece for a living room table or a dining room table. And if you’re really good with a crochet hook you could go all the way down to a number one yarn and a tiny hook and make a little pumpkin the earring. Oh I would love to see those if you make them please tag me on Instagram @prettydarnadorable.

Substituting Yarn
Something I love the most about making crochet items for the home is that generally size and fit are not of the upmost importance. With this pumpkin pattern because if it’s basic crochet stitch and design you can substitute any yarn that you like with the corresponding crochet hook. Keep in mind that this will change the size of the pumpkin in most instances but that is what is going to make your pumpkin patch look adorable.
Recommended Substitute Bulky Yarns

How to personalize
You can get a lot of variation in your crocheted pumpkin patch just by doing additional rounds and making your pumpkins taller or shorter. It’s that easy! So get a little daring and see how they turn out don’t think about it too much just go for it.

Stuff and closing the pumpkin
At this point, I highly recommend watching the video if you have never made pumpkins before. If a picture is worth 1000 words then a video must be worth 2000. Watch the video and take the guesswork out of this step. If videos aren’t for you no problem follow the instructions below.
Using a yarn needle and tail of yarn weave the needle back and forth between stitches and pull slightly as you go making sure there is enough room to put the stuffing in.
At this point you will want to stuff your pumpkin with poly-fil to desired firmness. I filled mine quite full as it made for a better shape when done. If you want them to be a bit squishier use less filling.
Shape the pumpkin
Helpful Hint – Lay the yarn where you want it to go and adjust placement as needed before pushing needle up through the centre of the pumpkin.
Keeping the yarn in the needle, wrap yarn down the side of the pumpkin to the centre bottom and push needle up through the centre top. Pull yarn tight until you see the pumpkin taking shape.
Keep the yarn pulled as tight as possible while you repeat this process wrapping the yarn down the side of the pumpkin and up through the middle until the pumpkin has six even sections. Once all sections are complete weave in the yarn 2-3 times at the bottom of the pumpkin and fasten off.
Stem
Ideas for stem
Twigs, Cinnamon , Pipe Cleaners, Chain of yarn, Chain of Ribbon, Pinecone
There are many ways to top off your pumpkin so I recommend thinking about how they will be used. Initially I made them for our mantle so the twigs were perfect, but as I made more I thought how much my grandkids would like them so decided to finish a few off with a loop of ribbon so they could easily carry them around.

Instructions for crochet pumpkin stem
Using ribbon of your choice make the stem per below instructions. Note: If you are using a wider ribbon 1/2” or wider you may want to use a larger hook.
Using a larger hook will make your stem bigger.
For mini & small pumpkins I used 6.50 mm hook and ⅜” wide ribbon.
Chain 12 and fasten off.
For medium to Xlarge pumpkins I used 8.0 mm hook and ¾” wide ribbon.
Chain 16 and fasten off.
Cont’d next page
Leave long a tail at the beginning and at the end when fastening off to pull through the bottom of the pumpkin or to leave out as tails.
Fold stem in half and pull tails of ribbon through the bottom of the pumpkin and secure with a little hot glue or tie a knot so it does not pull back up through the pumpkin.
OR
Glue stem in place with hot glue gun and leave ribbon tails out for extra decoration.
