Originally designed for little girls I only included newborn, 0-3 months and 3-6 months but the requests for larger sizes came quickly. So now I have included all different sizes all the way up to adult – the perfect mommy and me crochet hat. No matter who you want to make for, there are bigger sizes now available.

Construction of this Crochet Beanie
This hat is crocheted top down using increase rounds that double stitch count each round. Because the increases are done so quickly you may find that the top of your hat is rippled. Keep going and don’t worry – as you add more rounds in the body of the hat this rippling will flatten out and you will begin to see the beautiful texture taking shape.
The Yarn
When I first introduced this pattern, I used cotton, but I’ve since discovered that acrylic and wool blends are more popular for this beanie. It’s an ideal project for transitional seasons, as the #4 yarn weight strikes the perfect balance—neither too warm nor too cool.
I have used Bernat Super Value Yarn and Lion Brand Wool-Ease most recently and they both are great! I did find however a slight difference in the thickness of the yarns so be sure to do up a swatch with the yarn you intend to use.
Keep in mind who you are making this for as new baby may be more sensitive to a wool blend where as an adult may love the luxury of something made from wool.

Using 6.00 mm hook and #4 worsted weight yarn 12 rows + 12 sts across of sc = 4″ x 4″
A gauge swatch is vital for a well-fitting crochet hat. It determines stitch tension and measures the number of stitches and rows. Comparing it to the pattern’s gauge ensures the final hat fits as desired. Adjust hook or tension if needed for a perfectly fitting hat.
To do a crochet gauge swatch using a single crochet stitch, start by using the same type of yarn and crochet hook that you plan to use for your hat. Begin crocheting a square swatch using the single crochet stitch, making sure to maintain an even tension throughout. Once your swatch is complete, measure it using a ruler or measuring tape to determine the number of stitches and rows per inch.
Even though the hat is made using a different stitch, this gauge swatch will give you an idea of how your tension will affect the overall size of your finished product.

Notes
- Ensure you read the pattern carefully. This pattern uses US crochet terms and abbreviations.
- Continuous Rounds: When the pattern says the hat is worked in continuous rounds, do not join at the end of each round. Instead, use a stitch marker to mark the beginning of each round.
- Rippling: Because of how quickly the increases are made you may find that the start of the hat is quite ripply. This will fix itself as the sides of the hats are made and more rounds are added.
- Gauge: Gauge is crucial for this pattern to ensure the hat fits correctly. Make sure to crochet a gauge swatch and adjust your hook size if necessary to match the gauge given.
- ( ) – Work the stitches inside the parentheses in the same stitch.
- * to * – Repeat the instructions between the asterisks as directed.
- This pattern also comes with a video tutorial. This means that you can follow along step-by-step and have all your questions answered in real-time.
- Starting Chain: For Rnd 1, “Work 6 (or 7, 8) sc in 2nd ch from hook” means to skip the first chain and work into the second chain.
- Skipping Stitches: When the pattern instructs to “skip the first stitch,” ensure you move to the next stitch to work your designated stitches.
- Stitch Markers: It is helpful to use stitch markers to mark the beginning of each round, especially when working in continuous rounds. This will help you keep track of your stitches and rounds.

Roll rose into shape very loosely so that rose stays large and flat.

Row 2: Dc in next 3 sts, hdc next 3 sts, sc in last st and fasten off.
Yarn Choice: The yarn used in the pattern is Lion Brand Wool Ease, but any worsted weight yarn (#4) should work. However, ensure you have enough yarn by purchasing a little more than you think you may need.
Note: This pattern requires changing hook sizes for different parts of the hat and embellishments. Make sure to switch to the correct hook size as specified in the pattern.
