Single crochet fisherman cap beanie
What makes this Fisherman Cap pattern perfect for beginners? The entire hat is made from single crochet and half double crochet these are the only skills that you need to have success with this pattern. AND of course the video tutorial will answer any questions you have while crocheting the beanie.
I also believe because the yarn is larger and the hat takes far fewer stitches than a smaller yarn it will be easier to stick with the pattern all the way to the end.
If you are a beginner be sure to watch the video tutorial above all the way through!
All you need is some super bulky yarn a stitch marker your hooks and somewhere to watch the video and within an hour or so you will have this Fisherman Cap crocheted and ready to wear.

How to Resize this Crochet Hat
Even though I do my best to get the sizing perfect depending on who you are making this for an adjustment to the length may help to get the perfect fit.
I designed this pattern working the stitches top down making it really easy to adjust the length of the hat.
You can resize this hat by either make less rounds for a shorter beanie or just add more rounds to make it longer and cover more of your ears. Resizing the crochet fisherman cap couldn’t be easier.

Yarn Chosen for This Crochet Fisherman Cap
For this crochet hat I decided to use Wool-Ease Thick N Quick yarn by Lion Brand. Below are just some of the reasons I love this yarn so much!
- The Wool-Ease Thick N Quick has the look of 100% wool but is super soft and easy to take care of.
- Most of the colours they have are a combination of 80% acrylic and 20% wool. Depending on which colour you choose it may have a few different fibres.
- The completed messy bun hat made from this yarn can be machine washed and machine dried. I have done this many times with great results.
- This is a fantastic yarn for beginners. It is very easy to work with it glides nicely on your hook and does not come apart when you work with it.
- And last but not least they have an amazing assortment of colours both solid variegated striped metallic and speckled.

Crochet Ribbed Band
The band for the hat is worked in rows and attached as you go. Here is a simple video that will help with the construction of the brim if needed.
Please work the slip stitches loosely. If they are worked too tight you will be making the size of the hat smaller. Keep them loose for best results.
Change to 6.50 mm hook
Working in bottom of hat with wrong side facing, join yarn at centre back with slst, ch 12.
Note: For row 2 and every odd row, use a stitch marker to indicate the last stitch of the row. This will help you locate the first stitch of the following row.
Row 1: Hdc in 3rd ch from hook and each ch across (10) Working into sts of round 1, slst in next 2 sts, Ch 1, turn.
Row 2: Hdc in blo in 1st and each ch across (10). Ch 1, turn.

Row 4: Hdc in blo in 1st and each hdc across (10). Ch 1, turn.
Repeat rows 3 and 4 until you reach the end of the round.
After last row, join short ends of cuff by working a slip stitch across first and last rows of cuff. NOTE: Right side of hat and seam should be facing you. Once the cuff is turned up the right side of the seam will be facing out.
