This is the best crochet sunhat pattern for Kids! Summer is almost here and I wanted to make sure you had a super cute free pattern that you could enjoy and make for everyone and anyone!

The A’hoy Mate is super versatile and tonnes of fun to make! This crochet sunhat is available to you for free in all sizes from newborn to adult. Both boys and girls will love this hat. It was a fave of my boys for sure!
Style it your way, by doing stripes (check out this great tool) or adding polka dots. Make in your favourite colours or add a bow – make in cotton for warmer months too keep cool or in acrylic for those months that are a wee bit cold!
The ideas are endless!
Scroll down for the free crochet pattern in sizes newborn to adult.
This hat is made using single crochet and half double crochet which means if you are a bit daring as a beginner this is a great pattern for you!
Take your time break it down bit by bit and don’t get ahead of yourself. The videos will show the best ways to attach the mouth and ears to the crochet hat taking the guess work right out of it.

YARN CHOICES
This crochet sunhat works up great in a cotton, cotton blend and acrylic yarn beautifully! The hats in the photos are made out of Bernat Handicrafter Cotton.
COTTON
A great choice if you want to crochet for the warmer months. Cotton is excellent as it conducts heat away from the body, keeping baby cool and comfortable! If you do decide to use cotton yarn be sure to lay the hat flat after washing! Cotton can get very heavy when wet and you don’t want your beautiful project to lose its shape after washing it.
ACRYLIC
This hat is will also look great made in acrylic for those cooler months. Play at the park and keep the sun out of your little one’s eyes. Vanna’s Choice and Bernat Satin, are two of my favourite acrylic yarns to work with. Acrylic yarn is great for cooler days, it is soft, easy to work with, washes beautifully and rarely will garments lose their colour even upon multiple washings. With so many acrylic yarns available the colour choices are endless.
