Free Crochet Double PomPom Hat

  • dc – double crochet

Materials

Sizes

  • Preemie – 14” x 5.5”
  • Newborn to 6 Months – 16” x 6.5”
  • 6 to 12 Months – 17” x 7.5”
  • 12 Months to 2 Years – 18” x 8.5”
  • 3 to 5 years – 19” x 9.5”
  • 5 to 10 Years – 20” x 10.5”
  • Adult – 21″ x 11.5

SPECIAL STITCH :  Sk st, (sc, dc) in next, sk nest st, (sc, dc) in next

POM POM

This doesn’t have to be exact but here is what I used.  4” X 4” piece of cardboard

Wind yarn around cardboard approx 150 times.  Slide off cardboard and tie yarn around middle as tight as possible.  Leave ends long for attaching to hat.  Cut all loops and trim pom pom to size and shape desired.  Attach to hat.

Ready?  Lets get started making this adorable Christmas crochet jester hat!

Preemie

All rounds worked continuously – starting from the bottom up.

Starting with 5.5 mm hook – Work contrast colour for band here if desired and change to main colour when changing to 6.5mm hook

Ch 33, being careful not to twist chain, join with slip st (32)

Rnds 1-3: Sc in 1st and each st around (32)

Change to 6.5 mm hook

Rnd 4: Sk 1st st (sc, dc) in next st, *sk next st (sc, dc) in next* rpt from *to* till end of rnd (32)
Rnds 5-14: (Sc, dc) in 1st dc, sk next sc, *(sc, dc) in next dc, sk next sc* rpt from *to* till end of rnd (32)

Join last rnd with slip stitch and fasten off.

Turn hat inside out bring top edges together making sure fasten off point is centered.  Work slip stitch across top of hat.  Then turn right side out.  

Make pompoms as instructed above.  I like to join by simply tying a bow, that way they can be removed when washing the hat and can be fasten on again easily.

Newborn to 6 Months

All rounds worked continuously – starting from the bottom up.

Starting with 5.5 mm hook – Work contrast colour for band here if desired and change to main colour when changing to 6.5mm hook

Starting with 5.5 mm hook

Ch 41, being very careful not to twist the chain join with slip stitch (40)

Rnds 1-3: Sc in first st and each st around (40)

Change to 6.5 mm hook

Rnd 4: Sk 1st st (sc, dc) in next st, *sk next st (sc, dc) in next* rpt from *to* till end of rnd (40)
Rnds 5-16: (Sc, dc) in 1st dc, sk next sc, *(sc, dc) in next dc, sk next sc* rpt from *to* till end of rnd (40)

Join last rnd with slip stitch and fasten off.

Turn hat inside out bring top edges together making sure fasten off point is centered.  Work slip stitch across top of hat.  Then turn right side out.  

Make pompoms as instructed above.  I like to join by simply tying a bow, that way they can be removed when washing the hat and can be fasten on again easily.

6 to 12 Months
