Recommended Substitute Bulky Yarns

Brava Bulky 100% acrylic yarn, machine washable, tumble dry low. Perfect for hats that are going to get a lot of wear.

Mighty Stitch 20% Superwash Wool and 80% Acrylic, this yarn is perfect for hats, scarves, and blankets, too!

Wool of the Andes Superwash Bulky is the ultimate easy care wool, so you can enjoy all of the warmth, structure, and durability of wool with the convenience of quick bulky projects that are also machine washable.

Substituting yarn

There’s a fair amount of wiggle room in this design so going down to a worsted weight yarn will usually work. Keep in mind though that all worsted weight yarns are not the same some are thick and some are thinner.

Be sure to stay with a thicker ones otherwise your hat will be far too small. Keep your hook size the same as listed in the pattern below.

How to personalize

This hat looks completely adorable on its own and really needs nothing to make it stand out. But there are ways that you can personalize it just a little bit more. Imagine for a little boy the ears and horns made in his favourite sports team colours. For a little girl maybe add some flowers or bows on the ears.

Although in my personal experience if you ask kids what they want, they will come up with ideas that we could never imagine. I know that my boys had their hand in a lot of my designs.
