You can use any type of yarn and any size crochet hook to make this cozy. Just be sure to adjust the hook size and number of increase rounds if you’re using a different kind of yarn than what’s called for in the pattern.

To get started, you’ll need to know how to crochet in the round. If you’re a beginner, I recommend you watch the crochet video tutorial. You can make along with that a few times and then, you can follow this free crochet pattern to make your own cup cozy.

When I designed this crochet can cozy pattern – I tried with a few crochet hooks using a large hook and one a bit smaller – both work great!  So if you are making a bunch or in a hurry consider using an 8 mm hook.

Something to note, if making in cotton yarn then the 8mm won’t always work that well so you may want to do a test swatch to start. However, a nice acrylic seems to work up very well in this stitch and an 8mm hook.

Notes:

Crochet Can Cozy is worked bottom up.

Measurement laying flat 4”x 5”. To change the height of the can just continue adding additional rounds after round 17.  Then move on to rounds 18 and 19.

Rounds 1 thru 6 are worked continuously . Do not join. Use a stitch marker at the beginning of round for easier counting.

Colour Changes:

To make striped version choose three of your favourite colours and change your yarn/colour at each round.  I have made my base in one solid colour.  Then started colour changes at round 6.
