Easter is coming and along with it this sweet free crochet bunny hat pattern. I am including all sizes for this pattern because cute little bunnies aren’t just for babies. This sweet little crochet bunny hat looks great made in any cozy novelty yarn. However, so that you can see the stitches and for people just starting to crochet, I have made it up for this post using Bernat Baby Blanket. It looks amazing! I had actually only seen it done in novelty yarns before but because of the size of hook and the stitches used it almost has a bumpy affect. I think you will love it!How to Make A Crochet Bunny Hat – Four Easy Steps
- Crochet the base of the hat including earflaps
- Crochet ears
- Sew ears to hat
- Add braided ties

A special thank you to Little Moments Photography for the adorable photos.

With so many soft and cozy yarns available now, I cannot wait to see all the variations you all come up with. Grey and blue? White and pink? Yellow? So many ideas flooding through my mind. Today though I will stick with the white and pink as those are my favourite colours.SKILL LEVEL

ABBREVIATION
- ch – chain
- hdc – half double crochet
- sc – single crochet
- sk – skip
- sl st – slip stitch
- st – stitch
- sts – stitches
- rpt – repeat
MATERIALS
- 8.00 mm hook (pink of ear)
- 10.00 mm hook (ears)
- 11.5 mm hook (hat)
- Tapestry Needle
- Stitch Markers
- 1 Skien for baby sizes will need 2 for larger – 6 Super Bulky Bernat Baby Blanket
- Photos show Baby Clouds by Red Heart – it has since been discontinued. My recommendation for a great substitute yarn is Red Heart Pipsqueak – Even though this is rated a 5 Bulky yarn, I was able to obtain the same gauge as the bernat baby blanket yarn using the hook sizes called for in this pattern.
- Yarn Sub can help with substitutions.
TIES
Cut 18 pieces yarn 30 inches or longer.
Working in the 3 sc stitches at bottom of earflap, hold three strands of yarn and fold in half, (use only two for smaller sizes, if desired). Hold hat with right side facing you. Using hook, draw the folded ends through the stitch from right to wrong side. Pull the loose ends through the folded section and draw the knot up firmly. Repeat for next two stitches.
Braid to last 3 inches. Using a piece of yarn about 12 inches long, tie and knot leaving one long end to wrap around braid. Wrap yarn around braid several times and then use tapestry needle to weave end through.
Repeat for other earflap.

Hey Donna so sorry I am just responding now. I would suggest going down to a 10mm or a 9mm at the most – then make one size bigger. Hope this helps!
Thank you so much. I managed to get an 11.5 eventually and made the hat up this morning. I’m absolutely thrilled with. Thank you so much for the lovely pattern and brilliant video tutorial.
You are so welcome Donna! It is such a quick pattern to make – I’m glad you found the hook size you needed. 💕
Hi, absolutely adore this bunny hat. I’m a beginner but I’m going to give it a go. I’m having trouble sourcing an 11.5 hook here in the UK. Would you suggest I go up or down a hook size and would I also need to then adjust the hook size for the other components? Many thanks..
