Construction of the Cup Cozy

The foundation chain can be adjusted depending on the hook size you’re using, making this a customizable pattern.

For those interested in creating a tri-color version, you’ll change colors every round, adding a fun twist to your solid color cozy. 

The cup sleeve consists of multiple rounds, and you can add or subtract rounds to adjust the height. The finished measurements are approximately 4 inches tall x 10 inches around (fits most Large and XLarge reusable coffee cup brands), but you can easily customize this to fit your wide or larger cup preferences.

This cozy is worked in joined rounds, which means you’ll be turning your work after each round. If you’re new to this technique, don’t worry – I have a video tutorial available on my YouTube channel that will walk you through the steps. While the pattern has been updated for a longer cozy with 11 rounds instead of 7, the tutorial still provides helpful guidance on working the basic rounds.

Materials Needed

• 6.50 mm crochet hook OR 8.00 mm crochet hook
• Tapestry Needle

If you need help with the stitch, this tutorial will help.  Please note that the pattern has been updated since I did the tutorial and the last round is now different.  But the method in the pattern still works great!

This tutorial is also for the 8.00 mm crochet and works only 7 rounds the pattern has been changed for a longer cozy and now has 11 rounds.

Cup Cozy is worked bottom up. You will be joining at each round and turning.

8.00 mm hook – ch 24 or

6.50 mm hook – ch 30

If you are making the tricolour version do the colour changes every round.

Join with slip stitch, ch 2 turn

Rnd 1: Hdc in 1st and each chain around.  Join with slst, ch 3 turn. (24/30)

Rnd 2:  Chain 3 of previous rnd counts as first (dc, ch 1).  Skip next st, *dc in next, ch 1 and skip next st* rpt from *to* till end of rnd. Join with slst in 1st ch 3 sp.  Ch 1 turn (24/30)

If you would like your cozy to be taller just add more rounds at this point until you reach your desired height.

Rnds 3 – 7(11): Dc in 1st skipped st under ch space, ch 1, skip next st, *dc in skipped st under ch space, ch 1 skip next st* rpt from *to* till end of rnd.  Join with slst to ch 1. Ch 1 turn (24/30)

Finishing round: *Dc in skipped stitch under ch space, sc in next.*   Rpt from * to * in each till end of round.  Join to 1st st, fasten off and weave in ends.
