St. Patrick’s Day Crochet Cozy

FUN and FESTIVE St. Patrick’s Day Crochet Cup Cozy.  Are you looking to make something fun cheery and festive?  This rainbow cup sleeve is great for beer or coffee especially on St. Patrick’s Day 🙂

This is a great project for scrap yarn too!

ST PATRICK’S DAY CROCHET COZY

SKILL LEVEL

ABBREVIATIONS

ch – chain
dc – double crochet
hdc – half double crochet
sc – single crochet
sk – skip
st – stitch
sts – stitches
sl st – slip stitch

MATERIALS

4.0 mm hook
5.5 mm hook
Tapestry Needle
Stitch Markers

Worsted weight yarn (30g) for coffee cozy
Small amount of colours you choose for rainbow, cloud and pot
CROCHET RAINBOW PATTERN

CROCHET CUP COZY PATTERN

(Will be worked in continuous rounds)

With Light Blue yarn and 5.5 mm hook ch 32

Rnd 1: Ensuring that your starting chain is not twisted sc into the 1st chain made to form a circle and continue to sc in next ch and each ch around. (32)

Rnds 2-14: Sc in 1st and each st around. (32)

Change to white yarn

Rnds 15-16: Hdc in 1st and each st around (32)

After round 16 fasten off and weave in ends.

NOTES:

  1.  At the end of each row snip yarn leaving long end to weave in.  
  2. Work entire rainbow right side facing. 
  3. Start each new row at the beginning of previous row.

CROCHET RAINBOW PATTERN

RAINBOW

Using blue yarn and 4.0mm hook ch 9

Row 1: Sc in 2nd chain from hook and each chain across (8) Fasten off leaving tail to weave in.

Row 2: Join green to 1st st of previous row, 2 sc in same st and each st across. (16) Fasten off leaving tail to weave in.

Row 3: Join yellow to 1st st of previous row sc in same st, and each st across (16) Fasten off leaving tail to weave in.

Row 4:  Join Pink to 1st st of previous row, sc in same st. *2 sc in next, sc in next st* rpt to end of row (24) Fasten off leaving tail to weave in.

Row 5: Join purple to 1st st of previous row sc in same st and each st across (24) Fasten off leaving tail to weave in.

With colour of choice attach rainbow to cozy.

This crochet rainbow would look great on a beanie too!   Crochet a Beanie for Beginners is a great hat for this.

CROCHET CLOUD PATTERN

With white yarn and 4.00mm hook ch 6

Rnd 1:

(Hdc, dc, slst) in 2nd ch from hook
(2 dc, slst) in next
(hdc, tc, hdc) in next
(2 dc, slst) in next
3 dc in last st

Continue working around bottom of 1st row.

Rnd 2:

(Hdc, dc, slst) in 2nd ch from hook
(2 dc, slst) in next.  Fasten off leaving long tail for joining and sewing to rainbow.
1st row will now be curled around the bottom.  With tail of white yarn join ends together using tapestry needle and sew to rainbow.

BLACK POT

With black yarn and 4.0mm hook ch 5

Rnd 1: Sc in 2nd ch from hook and each ch across (4) Ch 1, turn.

Rnd 2: 2 sc in 1st st, sc in next 2, 2 sc in last st. (6) Ch 1, turn.

Rnds 3-5: Sc in 1st and each st across. (6) Ch 1, turn.

After row 5, Fasten off and leave long tail.  Sew pot to bottom part of rainbow.  Do not sew the top of pot to rainbow this is where the coin will slip in.

GOLD COIN

With yellow yarn ch 2, work 8 hdc in 2nd ch from hook.  Join with slip stitch and fasten off.  Weave in ends. Place coin into pot.

      To make the cozy, it says ch 33, but it also says it’s worked in rounds. It does not indicate attaching the ends of the ch 33 to make a circle? How does it wrap around the cup?

          It also says “do not join”. If I was new to crochet, I wouldn’t know what the next move was !! It should be worded differently .
